Home / Engaging a builder / Working with an architect

If you are ready to design your new home, but you’re unsure where to turn next, we have a number of architects and draftspeople that we can recommend.

We suggest that you familiarise yourself with the roles and responsibilities of both architects and clients, as outlined by the Architects Registration Board of Victoria, before signing any architectural contracts: http://www.arbv.vic.gov.au/for-consumers/working-with-an-architect/

We cannot iterate strongly enough how important it is to discuss your budget with your builder, architect or draftsperson from the very first meeting. Be clear as to whether your budget includes driveways, drainage, landscaping and external features such as swimming pools and sheds, as these costs are a significant part of building a new home. Does your block have access to power, gas, water and sewerage, or do these considerations also need to be included?

We offer free quotes and initial estimates for new homes and renovations, based on square metre rates. However, we do charge for comprehensive quotes of architect designed homes. Architect’s quotes can take 30-45 hours to resolve, particularly if the initial design exceeds your budget and the specifications need to be scaled back.
